Fashion Sewing Club
Fashion Sewing Club is a monthly meeting featuring garments, pattern modification and review, and the latest news in the sewing world. You will be provided with tips, techniques and new ideas that are sure to inspire you. Current fashion, chic wear, proper fit, and children’s wear are some of the topics we will explore. Whether you are an experienced sewist (and you’ve been quilting while waiting for something like this:) or just beginning – this club is for you! Bring Show and Tell for a chance to win a door prize.

Fee for Fashion Sewing Club is $10. Your first meeting is free. Registration is not required.

Fashion Sewing Club also meets on the second Thursday at SR Harris, Burnsville at 10:30.

You may attend any scheduled Club meeting at any location during the month in which you have paid. Club meetings will only be cancelled in extreme cases (bad weather, no electricity…).

Serger Classes

BASIC SERGERY & BEYOND

Do you have a serger you don’t know how to use? Are you a little confused about threading? Take the fear out of serging and get comfortable with what could become your favorite sewing tool. Sessions cover machine and stitch knowledge, threading, rolled hem, flatlock, techniques, serging a basic tee and more.

A child sized, cut out tee will be provided to practice your new skills. Construction techniques will be emphasized.

APPLIED SERGERY: Serging a Woven Top or Dress

Did you graduate from Basic and Beyond but just can’t quite take the next step to using your serger to make something? Bring your pattern and fabric and we’ll talk you through best tips and techniques and give you the confidence (or hold your hand ) so you can maximize your machine and sew faster and better than before.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

DRAPE NECK CARDIGAN: PATTERN HACK

Use your favorite tee pattern to make the quintessential summer cover up (hello, sleeveless dresses and tops!) Our one session class should get you pretty close to a finished garment-especially if your knit lends itself to unfinished edges.

OUTSIDE THE BIG 4 BOX: Working With Indie Patterns & PDFs

Do you want to go beyond the Big 4-Butterick, McCalls, Vogue, Simplicity – but you’re not quite sure if they are “good” or not? And then you buy them and they’re online and you don’t know how to get them printed? Or you’ve spent hours taping 8 ½ x 11 sheets into a full size pattern and never want to do it again? We’ve been there and done that so let us show you how to make sense of it all, including tracing those Burdastyle magazine patterns!!

MAKE IT FIT

Sewing is so much more fun when you know that what you are making will fit. But how do you know that? Whether you are new to sewing or a seasoned sewist, fitting can be challenging. Learn what to look for in a pattern to get closer to a good fit, how to see what changes to make, and how to make them. This hands-on class will help you translate the theory and numbers of pattern alteration into a garment that fits.

JALIE PULL-ON JEANS

A breeze to sew and wear, skinny jeans are a wardrobe staple. Make yours from stretch denim/twill or ponte and the Jalie Eleonore pattern. We’ll work on fit-and without a zipper, the techniques are pretty easy.

Skill Level: Intermediate

KIDS’ BEGINNING SEWING

Have some fun while you learn to use your sewing machine! Make a pillowcase, drawstring bag, and more to learn basic construction techniques. Bring your sewing machine or use one of ours!

Project costs NOT included in class fee and will vary with project chosen.

Skill level: Beginner

Ages: 9 – Teens

KIDS’ ADVANCED BEGINNING SEWING AND MORE

Be creative, have fun and play more with your sewing machine. If you know how to use a sewing machine, you are ready to choose a project from a pattern that will challenge you, but not make you cry. Choose a pattern that inspires you and try something new – like zippers, knits or facings! Enroll in more than one week to complete several garments or for more challenging projects. Instructors will guide students in choosing patterns.

Prerequisite: Must have previously sewn with a pattern (take our beginner class first)

Project costs NOT included in class fee and will vary with project chosen.

Skill level: Advanced beginner and up

Fee: $125

Ages: 9 – Teens

KIDS’ SUMMER SEWING CLUB

Beginners will learn to use a sewing machine and finish several projects, including a pillowcase to learn basic construction techniques. Students who have already sewn will begin pattern sewing with a pajama pant and then may choose another pattern with the guidance of instructors. Bring your sewing machine or use one of ours!

Project costs NOT included in class fee and will vary with project chosen.
