Kids’ After School Sewing Club

Whether your student is new to sewing or building a set of sewing skills, we will have two tracks (and two teachers) to accommodate the beginner and the non beginner.

The new sewists will learn

1. Threading and operating a sewing machine

2. Basic seam finishes

3. Basic construction techniques plus some handsewing.

Projects will include scrap catchers and a pillowcase. (One yard of one cotton fabric, 1/4 yard of another-then they will each be able to cut out two scrap catcher pieces and swap one with a neighbor with the leftovers from the one yard piece.)

We’re going to change it up a bit for the non beginners and feature two patterns for each set of 4 classes. Each pattern chosen will teach new skills as well as reinforcing those already learned. The classes can be taken in any order and the final session of the year the students may choose from any of the featured patterns that they missed.

It’s a buzz word (ok, term) just google it but we’re going to hold your hand/positively reinforce you to give it a try. After all, aren’t most of us sewing so that we’ve got a closet full of clothes that make us happy and dressing fun or at least less stressful?

This class is perfect for those coming back to sewing, beginning sewing or STILL not finding anything to wear after sewing all the time…(I won’t name names 🙂

Session One: We’ll share our wardrobe capsules and discuss what works for different bodies and why, body shapes, colors, function, etc.

Homework: Go to your closet and answer the same questions for yourself-have fun!

Session Two: Come to class with your homework and we’ll all evaluate and help you make a plan that works for you and your lifestyle. Patterns will be suggested.
