Fashion Sewing Club
Fashion Sewing Club is a monthly meeting featuring garments, pattern modification and review, and the latest news in the sewing world. You will be provided with tips, techniques and new ideas that are sure to inspire you. Current fashion, chic wear, proper fit, and children’s wear are some of the topics we will explore. Whether you are an experienced sewist (and you’ve been quilting while waiting for something like this:) or just beginning – this club is for you! Bring Show and Tell for a chance to win a door prize.

Fee for Fashion Sewing Club is $10. Your first meeting is free. Registration is not required.

Before You Buy a Serger

Serger? Coverstitch? Rolled hem? What’s it all about and what can I do with it? This lecture will clear up some of the mysteries of the wonderful machine called a serger (and that confusing coverstitch!). Make an informed decision before you buy and come back for Basic Sergery and Beyond once you’ve decided it’s the right machine for you.

One hour lecture with demonstrations and samples.

Basic & Beyond  Sergery

Do you have a serger you don’t know how to use? Are you a little confused about threading? Take the fear out of serging and get comfortable with what could become your favorite sewing tool. Sessions cover machine and stitch knowledge, threading, rolled hem, flatlock, techniques, serging a basic tee and more.

A child sized, cut out tee will be provided to practice your new skills. Construction techniques will be emphasized.

Did you graduate from Basic and Beyond but just can’t quite take the next step to using your serger to make something? Bring your pattern and fabric and we’ll talk you through best tips and techniques and give you the confidence (or hold your hand ) so you can maximize your machine and sew faster and better than before.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Kids’ After School: Beginners and Beyond

Beginners will learn to use a sewing machine and finish several projects, including a pillowcase to learn basic construction techniques. Students who have already sewn will begin pattern sewing with a pajama pant and then may choose another pattern with the guidance of instructors. Bring your sewing machine or use one of ours!

Project costs NOT included in class fee and will vary with project chosen.

Do you want to go beyond the Big 4-Butterick, McCalls, Vogue, Simplicity – but you’re not quite sure if they are “good” or not? And then you buy them and they’re online and you don’t know how to get them printed? Or you’ve spent hours taping 8 ½ x 11 sheets into a full size pattern and never want to do it again? We’ve been there and done that so let us show you how to make sense of it all, including tracing those Burdastyle magazine patterns!!

Muslin Fitting

Fitting your muslin by yourself is challenging so we’ve got more “hands-on”  help for you.  Class will focus on choosing the correct pattern style and size, reading the muslin for fit changes, and correcting the pattern tissue to reflect changes. We recommend not purchasing your pattern until we discuss-if you have patterns already, by all means bring them with you.

Sewing Kids’ Clothes

Love to sew for your grandkids or kids but the patterns just aren’t what you see in ready to wear or the instructions are old school and time consuming? Join us and make some cute warmer weather clothes that kids will love and you’ll have fun sewing.

Jalie No Zip Skinny Pant

A breeze to sew and wear, skinny jeans are a wardrobe staple. Make yours from stretch denim/twill or ponte and the Jalie Eleonore pattern. We’ll work on fit-and without a zipper the techniques are pretty easy.
