February 2019

Katie’s Garments:

Jumpsuit-Vogue 1506-Sequins

1. Sewed jumpsuit for “Vegas” themed gala

2. Pattern is lined which is essential when wearing sequins.  Still had to strategically remove sequins from armhole/neck area for comfort.

3. Used a size 14 Microtex needle (strong and sharp).  Only broke 2!

4. Made accompanying belt out of thick elastic and rhinestone trim. Hand sewed trim.

Christine Jonson Pleat Front Dress- ITY Jersey

1. Made this dress for a friend who attended “Vegas” themed gala with me.

2. She wanted a t-shirt style figure-flattering dress with a little flare.

3. Widened neckline by roughly 6”, lowered “V” 1 ½”, and shortened hem ~3 inches.

4. Hand-embellished bodice with rhinestones:  Rhinestones Unlimited

Faux Fur Coat– McCalls 7847, View CFaux Fur

1. Added patch pockets.

2. Love this pattern!  Designed specifically for faux fur-construction has minimal intersecting seams.

Draped collar top– Vogue 8831, View C-Matte Jersey

1. Love the line and design of the pattern, but much too low!

Debbie’s Garments:

Christine Jonson Travel Trio Two

Ponte Knit Geometric Banded Panel Jacket – Christine Johnson-Travel Trio Two

  1.  Shortened front, back and sleeve cap 3/8” between bust and shoulder seam.
  2. Omitted lining.
  3. Added 3/8” to solid band edge for seam allowance. Cleaned finished opposite edge of band before stitching rst of band to ws of center fronts and hood of jacket. Topstitched band to secure.
  4. Used band to add cuffs to sleeves.

Teal Funnel Neck Top-Christine Johnson-Travel Trio Two, Cotton lycra blend.

  1. Shortened front, back and sleeve cap 3/8” between bust and shoulder seam.
  2. Shortened length by 2”.
  3. Easy and quick make but not sure I like the fit of the neck.
Self-drafted Cardi

Drape/Snap Front Cardi-Heathered Jersey, Poly Viscose, spandex blend. Use your favorite Tee shirt pattern. * This was featured in FSC several years ago – but just in case here are the basics:

  1. Create a full front pattern piece; extend front from center over to edge of beginning of armhole. Extend neckline from center over to beginning edge of armhole.
  2. Cut two fronts. If you would like a collar, cut a rectangle your desired width by the length of both front necklines and the back neckline.
  3. Stitch shoulder seams, pin collar to neck edge, matching CF and shoulder points.
  4. Continue cardi construction as you would a tee shirt, adding any other features you would like such as a rolled hem, snaps, asymmetrical hems, cuffs, etc.
KwikSew 4215

Grape Ponte Dress With Sequin Embellishment-KwikSew 4215, View A

  1. Made a muslin and made 7 fitting adjustments – not fun nor very pleasing!
  2. Omitted zipper and ties (I now know why they were included as part of dress)
  3. Basted ws of sequin mesh to rs of center front.
  4. Added sequin mesh to sleeve ruffle/flounce.

Very disappointing pattern in so many ways, especially fit – runs big- (ties?) and very putsy!

Kristin’s Garments:

Vogue 1415

Sweater with Pleat-Vogue 1415-Sweater knit

  1. Lengthened pattern 4”. Quick sew.
  2.  Love the pleat and the way it drapes. Width of neck is great.
Vogue 8952

Cut-on Sleeve Sweater-Vogue 8952, View C-Linen knit
1. Rotated shoulder seam forward by 3/8”

— Trimmed front shoulder seam by 5/8” left back shoulder as is

— Sewed 3/8” seam allowance.

2. Sleeve is a bit tight but knit isn’t very stretchy.

3. Back neck is low.

Burda 8082

Swimsuit Cover Up-Burda 8082, View B-Mesh knit

  1. Front neck treatment takes a bit of time but really like how it turned out. Definitely do again.
  2. Shoulders are narrow-only the slit sleeve is sewn in two pieces. I accidentally sewed shoulder seams first so did set in sleeve application and it worked well.
  3. Added 4” in length. Didn’t finish any hems.
Simplicity 8640

Squared Hem Dress-Simplicity 8640-Rayon/linen woven

  1. Made a petite adjustment at waist to get a bit more room at hips.
  2. Front bodice is cut on bias which may provide fun opportunities for print/stripe placement.
  3. Sleeve fit- snug but comfortable

Four Piece Yoga Pant Revisited-Silhouette Patterns #3418-Ponte knit -in photo of Burda 8082 above

  1. Tried to make leg adjustments to

      a. Take out excess fabric under seat and accommodate calves

Making adjustments always seems to have consequences-the “under seat” adjustment resulted in a jodhpur- bulge- seems to have helped but not as well as the Sandra Betzina pants from last month.
