Saturday’s Show and Tell

I think we hit a record for attendance on a Saturday meeting for Fashion Sewing Club-twenty people!! Woohoo!

Our Saturday morning photographer (anyone interested for Tuesday or Thursday?) snapped these photos-but the real “heart warmer/sweetheart/valentine” story was that Barbara (pictured in the black wool coat below) and her sister, Judy, have been attending for at least a year now. Barbara made quite a few versions of a double sided quilted jacket but came in her newly sewn black coat on Saturday. Judy, unbeknownst to her sister, had made a soft cuddly blanket for Barbara and embellished it with all of the cotton scraps from Judy’s jackets. She unfolded it in front of Barbara for the first time at Club on Saturday! (We didn’t get a picture but I’d post it if one of them would send a photo-hint, hint). Those two sisters are a perfect example of how we can encourage each other to go beyond our previous sewing boundaries. And if your sister doesn’t sew, come to Club and meet a new sister to join you on your journey!

Thanks for all the “keep me on the email list” responses. Just doing a little housecleaning. You don’t need to do anything if we’ve seen you/talked to you in the last twelve months.

Tuesday and Thursday Clubbers-the gauntlet has been thrown!

January Fashion Sewing Club Photos

Even though Old Man Winter tried to keep people away, there was lots of show and tell and a pretty impressive group of people attended our three meetings in January.

We are trying a few new things with the start of the new year. At our Hancock Southtown meetings we are including some hands on demonstrations each month to add an educational element and give attendees a chance to try out the techniques that we find useful. This month we demonstrated several knit techniques.

At Treadle we are choosing a pattern of the month and encouraging anyone to try the pattern themselves and bring the garment to show. To sweeten the deal we will be drawing for a $15 gift certificate from those who sew the pattern of the month. The goal is to see one pattern in a variety of fabrics and on a variety of bodies.

Can This Garment Be Saved? is a new idea to help get those finished-but-never-worn garments out into the light. Show us how you alter/change a garment to make it wearable. Debbie restyled an oversized Nordic ski sweater in December into a perfect warm, fitted sweater. If you are stumped, bring the garment and get ideas from the group!

Here is the calendar for the remainder of the month and pictures from Show and Tell. January Club sheets and garment photos can be found by clicking the tab above.

January Calendar

Fashion Sewing Club is tomorrow (Thursday) at Hancock, 10:30 and 6:30. We are looking forward to testing a few new ideas…

Here are a few photos of jean jackets (none of them made with a lower band or from denim) in case you are interested in the class. We offer it at Southtown in January as a sew along with the option of sewing another project if you would rather. At Treadle the class is limited to a jean jacket-with modifications, of course 🙂

December Sewing

The first of the December Fashion Sewing Club meetings took place at Treadle Yard Goods on Tuesday. With Christmas quickly approaching we saw a fair amount of gift sewing.

Just Had to Share

I am one lucky grandma! My DIL sent pics of the boys in the rompers I made last month from Dad’s old tees. They were shown at Fashion Sewing Club.

Debbie and I are finishing up our first community ed class and then hunkering down for some garment sewing. (A fall wardrobe capsule? One of the many new fall patterns? Nursing tops??)
We will be teaching at the ASG Creative Connections on Saturday, Oct. 4, and then it’s Fashion Sewing Club next week on Thursday at Hancock.
Happy Sewing!!

September’s Club Notes

So good to see everyone after a month of doing other things.

Garment photos and Club sheets have been uploaded to the site. You can see them by clicking on the bar that says “Club Sheets and Garment Photos” above.

Correction to your Fashion Sewing Club sheets-Debbie’s Faux Sweatshirt should be pattern #1317 and Kristin’s Princess Seam Top should be #1316. We’re not sure why but Simplicity released some fall patterns that were displayed on top of pattern cabinets and then the numbers changed when the big catalog came out. KwikSew has started doing the same thing-patterns displayed on uprights but numbers aren’t in catalog. New Look also has some patterns with two different numbers.

Sixteen Eau Claire ASG members entrusted us with fitting bodice muslins on Tuesday. Fun group of active garment sewists.

We had our first community ed class this week-a few sergers that turned the opposite direction of current machines-but an eager group. And they all got a beautiful balanced stitch!

We’re at Southtown Hancock the next two Mondays, September 22 and 29-all day-so if you need anything, let us know. Classes have also been updated on the website.
We even have our new business cards! There’s hope 🙂

Thanks to all of you that came to Club this month (there were over 50 of you-woot woot!) and take classes from us.
