Wash Your Ponte Roma!

The good folks at Treadle want you to know that the Ponte Roma knit shrinks a good bit when it is washed (about 20%). This may not matter if you bought extra but if you are tall and need the whole of your cut you will be in trouble. If you bring your piece in during November (bring in your sales slip if you have it), they will take your old piece and cut a new one that accommodates the shrinkage. You will have to pay the difference but you will get a whole piece of cloth instead of two pieces. We hope this helps. It’s still beautiful fabric and well worth the trouble.

All Updated and Ready to Go

I’ve just completed updating all the class lists and schedules. I’m my own proofreader so please let me know of any errors you find. Speaking of errors, in scheduling new classes we realized we’re not being consistent with the fees. It’s something we strive to do so from now on you should see one or two hour classes for $10 per hour of instruction. For three or more hours the fee per hour goes down and probably not equally but we try. To make it up to those of you who paid before the change that means that anyone that paid $30 for the Button Pleated Cardigan Class or the Yoga Pant Class has a $5 credit with us. You may use it for Club fees or your next class or we will give you a refund check.

Give the new classes a look-see. We’re offering classes on Club days for those of you who want to make a day of it and we’re giving you a choice between two garments. The Oilcloth Shopping Bag would make a great gift for many. The fee is only $10 and then you’ll pay for each kit you make. We do some of the work for you. I’ll get a picture up soon.

Just to put closure on the October Fashion Sewing Clubs we saw some great Show and Tell or maybe “Sew and Tell”. Some of the information to be passed on:
-the Silhouette Trench Coat sleeves tend to run narrow
-chenillemagic.com is a local wholesale house (you can order online) that carries      great minky
-keep your Stretch & Sew patterns-they don’t make them anymore
-hooter hiders (nursing coverups) make the greatest nursing mom gifts-see instructions at tadacreations.blogspot.com

And now on to the great sewing projects we’ve got in our heads after wandering through (and yes, buying some of) Treadle‘s great new fabrics. I must admit I felt guilty buying fabrics online when I saw all of the new bolts. Make the trip and support your local fabric supplier. It appears they’ve made an investment in making us happy-let’s do our part.

Sew On!

Zippered Bag Serger Project

Finally we have a picture for the zippered bag.  It’s a great size for an iPod and accessories and it’s quilted to protect the contents.  Apply the zipper, roll a hem and gather a ruffle, all with your serger.  Click here to go to the class listing.

New to our Blog/Website?

I don’t mean to insult anyone but if you are new to blogs (which are just a subset of websites) I want to make sure you understand how they work.  A blog allows us to talk to you and vice versa-without an email.  The most recent post (latest thing we have to say) is the first thing you’ll see.  The first or oldest post is at the bottom of the page.  So if haven’t seen this site before, scroll down to the very first post and read up the page in order.  You’ll only have to do this once and then just catch up on the latest post each time you visit the site (which we hope is often).  And don’t forget to leave a comment so we know what you’re up to!

Memberships to Begin in October

Tired of the monthly fee collection?  So are we.  So beginning in September you can pay for the months of October, November and December for only $25 (you save $5).   We’ll have your nametag printed out and you can just walk in, pick up a preprinted nametag and have a seat.  All fees will go through Material Girls and we’ll get it online as soon as we can.

This membership will be good only for October-November-December when the membership will expire.  So you can pay for this membership during any September or October meeting, after that you’ll have to pay monthly.  Another membership offer will begin in January.  If you miss a Club meeting and have a membership we will send you the Club sheets free at your request.  Previous Club sheets are available for $3.

We have dates and locations for September!

It feels like fruit basket upset but here are the dates and times for September Fashion Sewing Club meetings.  The content is the same each time, only the times and locations change to help fit into your schedule.  We’re trying to get a set time (ie. second Thursday) but need to work with what’s available.  Let us know what you think.  Leave a comment.

Please email and let us know where you’ll attend as there is limited space and we don’t know what to expect yet.  At this point we can’t take payment online but we’re working on it.  Thanks!

See you in September!

So Where is Associated Sewing on Lyndale?

Going south on Lyndale from American Blvd. (used to be 80th) ( and Lyndale exit on 494 is closed so take Penn or Nicollet exit) the store is on the east (left) side just before the intersection of 86th St.  If you’d like to meet friends for a meal, Sawatdee (Thai food) is on the north end of the strip mall, Perkins is about a block north on the west side of Lyndale and Davanni’s is across the street to the south of the strip mall.   Judy Boullosa is the store manager and carries Pfaff and Singer machines along with a great selection of threads, notions, books and embroidery software.  The store is open and spacious and has been hosting us since June.  We hope you find this change of destination easy to make if you’re not already a regular there.

Fashion Sewing Club no longer at Hancock

We enjoyed having Fashion Sewing Club at Hancock but with our new business set up we could no longer work within their corporate structure. To accomodate everyone for Fashion Sewing Club, we have added meeting times at Associated Sewing at 86th and Lyndale and Treadle Yard Goods on Grand Ave. in St. Paul. We hope this causes a minimum of inconvenience for you and more flexibility for us. We’d like to hear from you if you have ideas for other meeting times or places.

We Are Material Girls!!!

Thanks to all of the loyal Sew Amazing customers, Fashion Sewing Club has taken off with great success. To manage all that we’d like to do, we’ve decided to call ourselves “Material Girls” and see where it takes us. At this website you can find the schedules for the various locations of Fashion Sewing Club and classes that are taught by Debbie, Kristin and Laurel. For now you can register for the classes by emailing us. You can also register by calling the store where the class is held.  You’ll need to pay at the class. We hope to be able to handle payment online soon.
We’ll also be blogging about things we’re doing, events around the Cities and anything we come across that we think might be interesting to sewing divas like yourself.
