April was a good sewing month for some-lots to see. Fashion Sewing Club photos and sewing notes can be found by clicking here or on Club Sheets/Garment Photos above.
Below is Karen’s ensemble-the tunic is ready-to-wear by Gudrun Sjoden. I’ve watched her clothing for some time. It’s full of color and pattern but not something I’d expect to see on the street here in the metro area. One of the dilemmas on my mind was to reinterpret the look into something I could wear. Karen has solved the problem by choosing just one piece and matching it with a solid pant and sweater. Now which piece will I order???

Our last May Sewing Studio will be held on Thursday, May 26, from 1-4. The new summer calendar is on the website, mostly complete except for PayPal buttons. They should be ready before the holiday weekend. We’ll be back with more descriptions and info about the new classes for summer.
Are you watching the Great British Sewing Bee? I had no idea they were on Season 4 already. YouTube is the only way I know of watching-there have been 2 episodes. Here’s a blog that adds extra content to the episodes.
Hancock’s Southtown location is officially closed but the new First Sewing location is up and running!
The new store, where we will continue offering classes, is still in Southtown Shopping Center and across from Schuler Shoes. It’s also just across the street from Bed Bath and Beyond. The new classroom area is open and welcoming and the bathrooms are so clean! We are grateful to Bruce and his staff for dedicating space to classes. The formal address is 7971 Southtown Drive.
Classes start up again this week-here’s the calendar for the month of May:
May 2016 Fashion Sewing Club dates
*Please note date and time changes for May due to our attendance at the Pattern Review Weekend May 12-14.

First-very sorry about the links at the bottom of your last email if you are a subscriber 😦 My tech advisor tells me it’s fixed and that it didn’t hurt anything-just made it easier for all of you to find the drugs you probably aren’t looking for anyway (blush).
Second-if you want to go to the Pattern Review Weekend in Chicago, today is your last day to sign up (March 31). We’ll be there!!
Third-Hancock is closing more quickly than we thought AND a pretty good source says that the whole company is closing-no one wanted to buy. So you’ll see the three remaining stores start discounting soon.
So if you want to take a class this month it should be sooner rather than later. The calendar is on the post previous to this one.
Also the patterns at Southtown Hancock are at very good prices and there are many in stock (I was the only person on my knees going through the drawers). Sewing notions are literally gone but fabric can still be found at 50% off (and more).
We’ll be in the classroom from 10-4 today so stop by and say hi if you are at the store. Looks like another great grey day for sewing!
Always on the lookout for sewing related things to do, we’ve decided to take in the Pattern Review Weekend as it is so close by in Chicago. Our rooms and flights are booked-now all we have to do is decide which indie (or other) patterns to try before we go.
Dates are Friday and Saturday, May 15-16. Check-in is Thursday night, a full day of panel discussions, etc. and a dinner on Friday and shopping on Saturday.
Grainline Studio, Jalie, Janet Pray of Islander Patterns and Angela Wolf will be on the panel.
We’d love to have company so email us if you are planning to go to.
Or at least it feels quiet and peaceful and the temperature is warming up!
April is a new month and the flowers are on their way. I watched Peggy Sagers on her YouTube channel last night and was, as usual, inspired to get sewing for spring. She had a good overview of what the world says we should be wearing this season along with some sage advice on whether or not we need to wear it 🙂
Here’s our calendar for April. Hancock Fabrics will most likely be open for most of the month. We’ll keep you updated.

Life was unusually full for us as March began. Unfortunately some things had to make room for others. We apologize for having to cancel Thursday’s Fashion Sewing Club. Saturday and Tuesday meetings were wonderful and great therapy for Debbie and me. Some of the highlights are featured below.
Hancock Fabrics at Southtown is still open, markdowns were at 40% when I was last at the store-the markdowns seem to vary from store to store. Rumor has it that the stores will close by May but that isn’t official. First Sewing will be moving east in the same mall and our current plan is to teach in their new space. There may be a week or two in limbo but we will keep you posted.
Treadle classes continue as usual. Michelle is probably home from her Vegas buying trip and great new fabric has already been coming in. Summer kids’ classes have been posted on their website.

Tomorrow I’ll post April classes and a few other tidbits…
As many of you may know I was helping care for my mother-in-law who had pancreatic cancer. She passed away over the weekend and we are now in the midst of celebrating her life with family and friends.
Debbie’s husband had emergency surgery on Monday. He is doing well.
For these reasons we have cancelled our Tuesday and Thursday classes, including Thursday evening’s Fashion Sewing Club-all at Southtown Hancock.
We will have Fashion Sewing Club on Saturday, Mar. 5, and Tuesday, Mar. 8, both at Treadle Yard Goods at 10:30 am.
Despite the cold weather many of you attended Club meetings and we were all well rewarded. Inspirational sewing and seeing friends (some of whom we hadn’t seen for many months and some new) made the cold trip worthwhile.
Next month’s meetings will be here soon as the Saturday meeting is one week early-
Saturday, Feb. 6, Treadle Yard Goods, 10:30 pm
Tuesday, Feb. 9, Treadle Yard Goods, 10:30 pm
Thursday, Feb. 11, Southtown Hancock, 6:30 pm
January Club sheets and photos are posted under the heading of the same above.

Happy 2016! Are you a resolution maker? Any of them pertaining to sewing? It’s always in the back of my mind but who is brave enough to say them outloud?
Anyway, Fashion Sewing Club 2016 begins tomorrow (Saturday, January 9)! Please notice that we have discontinued the Thursday morning meeting at Hancock Southtown for the winter. We apologize if that messes up your schedule, please let us know. If there’s a critical mass, we can start it up but the migration of the snowbirds leaves us with empty chairs.
January Fashion Sewing Club meetings-
Saturday, January 9, 10:30 am, Treadle Yard Goods
Tuesday, January 12, 10:30 am, Treadle Yard Goods
Thursday, January 14, 6:30 pm only, Hancock Fabrics, Southtown
The website is current with the new class offerings at Hancock and Treadle. We have had quite a few inquiries about sewing for school age kids. If after school isn’t an option we can always schedule something on a day there is no school so contact us if you are interested.
Here’s the January calendar. Hope to see many of you this month-stay warm this weekend! Click on Classes above for more info and registration.
